The second new Paperback release is by what is not a young band. The two men behind Det Wiehl produce music since 1973. In the early eighties they were called Tox Modell and they were active in a refreshing musical movement in Amsterdam, which was their own variation of ‘No New York’, called Ultra. After that, Tox Modell was reformed into Det Wiehl, with two guitarists, Andre Bach and Marc Tegefoss. They released many cassettes and made so far for Staalplaat 1 CD, and for the KIP series three CD’s. Their recent work, ‘I-Den/Basic Two’, are two different works for theatre and choreography pieces and were performed in Holland several times. Det Wiehl have come a long way: from their early heavy guitar distortion pieces, their sound is still carried by guitars (electric, acoustic, bass), but they add elements of electronica to it. If you wouldn’t know better, you might say it’s post-rock.
