the sounds on the living things come from layered and edited field recordings and tape manipulation, from recordings made between 1990 and 2023 in boston, istanbul, estoi, herculaneum, brandenburg, new york, and berlin. no synthesizers were used. some material was initially developed for joe nanashe’s film, contact.

RNL is jesse farber’s collaborative and solo project. since the early 1990s it has focused on tape experiments, collage, and live actions. as of this writing, present and past RNL members include fleawig, nøsferatu, ms. anthropy, un-d.t., loopis, rusty pipewater, and mr. a/b, at least one of whom is jesse farber.
