“Zona Fumatori is a project initiated by autonome artist Sagi Groner (Israel) and musician Martijn Tellinga (Netherlands). Both being fanatic microphone-abusers, Zona Fumatori is the sum of personal minidisc-recordings, showing a delicate balance between manipulated, abstracted sound and highly associative found-sound objects. Zona Fumatori don’t affect or manipulate recordings after selecting them but arranges and de-arranges layers and sequences build with this material. Their sound might be rougher and even a bit lo-fi because of that, but nevertheless edited in a detailed and delicate way.
Enteng is their first release, also being the first release in Mixer’s cd-R series. Enteng contains 13, mostly short tracks; some are pure untouched recordings as they were once made, others consist of multi-layered sequences. Overall these tracks have a certain calm with them, as well as a rather traditional build-up in composition, allowing enough space for further development. While in this ambient flow, Enteng has more than enough happenings in it to keep fascinating, no need for abrupt cuttings or mood switches here.”
