“In the year 2000 Staalplaat and Extrapool started the Brombron project. Two or more musicians become artists in residence in Extrapool, an arts initiative in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, with a fully equipped sound recording studio. These artists can work in a certain amount of time on a collaborative project; a project they always wished to do, but didn’t have the time or the equipment to realise. Previous releases were by Main & Antenne Farm and by Ekkehard Ehlers & Stephan Mathieu (both still available). Brombron 03 by Roel Meelkop and Tore Boe will be released later this year.

Icelandic artist Heimir Bjorgulfsson (ex-Stilluppsteypa) and Swedish artist Jonas Ohlsson team up for a strange blend. A frozen margarita from the north perhaps…? Both artist are educated in the visual arts as well as Heimir having studied sonology at The Royal Conservatory in Den Haag and Jonas electro-acoustic music at Fylkingen in Sweden. They both live and work in Amsterdam, and have numerous releases behind their back, solo and in various projects.

Bringing their Nordic background into the Extrapool studio in Nijmegen, the pair used a lot of old analogue gear available to them there in combination with their own high-tech digital machines to make this very varied album of 23 tracks ranging from funky noise to abstract old school acid… quite different from previous outputs from them. Strange things started to happen as the Gelderland Legend appeared unexpected in the studio and singing sessions even took place to ad just the right flavour of this otherwise unique cocktail.

The Brombron releases are packed in all carton sleeve which are developed and printed in Extrapool’s printing studio. Jewel case sized, but without any plastic or glue and most definitely non industry standard.
