In the year 2000 Staalplaat and Extrapool started the Brombron project. Two or more musicians become artists in residence in Extrapool, an arts initiative in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, with a fully equipped sound recording studio. These artists can work in a certain amount of time on a collaborative project; a project they always wished to do, but didn’t have the time or the equipment to realise. Previous releases were by Main & Antenne Farm, Ekkehard Ehlers & Stephan Mathieu, Jonas Ohlsson & Heimir Bjorgulfsson, Radboud Mens & Blonk (all still available). Brombron 03 is now available
“The Brombron project of Extrapool and Staalplaat is one of those rare opportunities for artists to exchange ideas and work together in a very close way. To be locked up for one week in a recording studio and live only one flight of stairs up is very intense and also very productive. When I was invited to do the project I had no idea what it would become. After some initial time scheduling problems, I invited Tore do to the collaboration with me. We did not decide on any theme or concept before we started, so we were basically blank when we entered the studio. The studio itself, with all its equipment and its specific acoustic qualities, became our source of inspiration. Working with the analogue synths in there and making room recordings, we gradually built up a body of raw material that led the way to the construction of the tracks on this CD. I am very happy with the result, because it is indeed a reflection of what happened between Tore and me in that space during that period. We slept very well.
The Brombron releases are packed in all carton sleeve which are developed and printed in Extrapool’s printing studio. Jewel case sized, but without any plastic or glue and most definitely non industry standard.
