For the fourth time as part of transmediale/CTM Vorspiel, Marco Brosolo and Soundwatch celebrate January 22, the birthday of late singer-songwriter-artist Daniel Johnston and his ever-growing legacy.

Anagram Space will host a mini exhibition of re-appropriated art based on Johnston’s iconic drawings, with Alvise Bittense, Christopher Bannat, Marta Sesana, Julia Rahne and Marco Brosolo, there will be a screening of rare live footage of Johnston’s first European concert (by Annette Maechtel) and music videos of cover versions (by SHOXXX, Chikiss, Klaus Beyer, Sound 8 Orchestra feat. Vanette and Brosolo). Marco Brosolo and Friedemann Bochow will perform live covers and record a limited edition cassette available immediately afterward.

ODYSSEY is a series of events run by Pablo Ulises Lienhard that started in 2022 in Berlin. It is called „Odyssey“ in reference to the artists second name „Ulises“ but also to play with the idea that every edition can be something different and is allowed to be in a constant state of (re-)searching. The events are taking place irregularly in changing venues and all explore a more or less vague idea or concept.

ODYSSEY #4 is going to be the release show of Pablo Ulises Lienhard’s self-released solo album „Klangkörper“. Klangkörper is an album dedicated to sounding bodies, feedback, resonance, tuning and beatings.
All sounds in Klangkörper were generated by feedback loops through a mixing desk that were diffused and spatialized using various „sounding bodies“, resonating objects and (transducer) speakers giving the sometimes harsh or clean electronic sound some sort of physicality or „body“.

The release show will be embedded between performances by rouge-ah (Urška Preis) on electric harp and Ludwig Wandinger on electronics.

Christian Wolfarth was born in Zurich in 1960. After beginnings on guitar and electric bass, he switched to drums to play in blues and rock bands as a self-taught musician. Later studies at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern and with Pierre Favre at the Conservatory in Lucerne. Early on he discovered the possibilities of improvisation and delved into sound research. Increasing interest also in contemporary music. Today he can be heard in these directions and frequently as a soloist. In addition, music for theatre, dance, film and literature. His music is documented on about 50 recordings.

Turntablist Joke Lanz creates autonomous sound-cells that melt into a language free of any function. He combines ritual reductionism with anarchistic playfulness, atmospheric soundscapes with cut-up noise and physicality with unpredictability.
Best known for his international acclaimed band project “Sudden Infant”, Joke Lanz has been presenting his work for 30 years all over the world. Born in Switzerland and currently operating out of Berlin, he is one of the most prolific and profound artists working in the border zones where performance and body art meet improvisation and noise.

Lina Allemano is a Canadian trumpeter, composer, improviser and bandleader with an active international career performing and recording cutting-edge contemporary music primarily in improvised, jazz and experimental settings. Allemano splits her time between Berlin and Toronto and is recognized as one of the leading innovative trumpeters on the scene today. She collaborates with a long and ever-expanding list of important international artists as well as running her own successful label LUMO RECORDS and leading multiple ground breaking projects including her long time acoustic quartet LINA ALLEMANO FOUR, trumpet/electronics duo BLOOP, Berlin-based power-trio OHRENSCHMAUS, electro-acoustic quartet TITANIUM RIOT, and her solo trumpet project.

Mariana Carvalho and Daria Redkina combine extended, dismantled and different sized accordions with voice. Acoustic or synthetic loops, blowing reeds, inwards shouts, body shaking in disturbing or repetitive spaces, half open, half structured.

Daria Redkina (aka Zoya Zerkalski) is a Ukrainian sound artist based in Berlin. With practice in collective improvisation and site specific performance, her research work covers perceptual phenomena of sound in space and human interrelationships determined by historical and cultural narratives.

Mariana Carvalho is a performer, improviser, pianist and sound artist from São Paulo. She works with body, voices, listening, relation, distance, gender, inner sounds, nylon, eutony. She is currently at the Sound Studies and Sonic arts master program at UdK, in Berlin. She is part of Sonora – músicas e feminismos, Brazilian feminist network.

Zimmermann / Lienhard are a finely tuned team. Since 2018, they regularly perform and improvise together in various constellations and contexts.

“kaputt” is the debut album of the duo. It captivates through its singular combination of instruments and the virtuosity with which the acoustic and electronically created sounds have been combined and blended. The result is a challenging and at the same time very beautiful music, which can only just be situated somewhere between Ambient, Drone, Noise, and contemporary music.

A father-daughter duo, YEAH YOU is the free-improvising twosome of Will and Freya Edmondes aka Gustav Thomas and Elvin Brandhi. The pair have progressed from endless hours of instantaneous composing and recording in their car, often using the trademarks of hiphop and dance music with abandon and aplomb, drizzled heavily with stream-of-consciousness vocal proliferations and the odd splash of autotune.
