“Right after Evol’s live performance march 2006 at Lovebytes Festival in Sheffield, Joseph Gerhardt of Semiconductor Films came up with a term to describe Evol’s recent developments in electroacoustic music. Two words: “Reinforced Concrète”. Over the last few months, the much praised “Punani” series has evolved towards some new territory, where the harshness and raw digital fury of the series’ early stages is balanced and confronted with a plethora of subtle shapes and gestures, bubbling audio layers and rubber-elastic sound, reminiscent of classic musique concrète, yet reinforced with Evol’s characteristic blasting approach to audio.”Punani Quatre” is the fourth instalment of Evol’s “Punani” series, after releases on Fals.ch (the unmissable 90 minute long “Superpunani”), Scarcelight (“Punani Shell”) and Mego (“Punani Potagia”, from the album “Magia Potagia”).”Punani Quatre” features 2 new compositions (“Jabbercocky XII” for bass clarinet and computer, and “Punani Testarossa” for solo computer) plus 4 remixes of the latter by highly regarded electronic producers: Vienna’s Peter Rehberg (aka Pita, of Mego fame), Swiss composer Dave Phillips (a usual suspect on Berlin-based label Tochnit Aleph), US noise trio Cock E.S.P. and the San Francisco sampling wizard Jon Leidecker, aka Wobbly.
