“Originally released in 2001, the debut album (and syntactical nightmare) Her’s Is > arrived just one year prior to Daedelus’ breakout release, Invention, the Plug Research album that set out much of the blueprint for what was to come from this singular producer. The music on this outing is decidedly more perplexing and fragmented than anything that was to come from Daedelus (real name Alfred Darlington), but you can make out some of his more irreverent sample-plundering, and beat-skittering behaviour (‘Disparage’ is certainly recognisable as a Daedelus track) but there are weird seasick drones, splurges of noise and a running phone call monologue that make Her’s Is > a resolutely bizarre album, by anyone’s yardstick.”
