French free saxophonist, born 2 April 1945 in Chantilly, France.
Portuguese violinist and electronic musician active in free improvisation, born 1948 in Lisbon.
“A set of four interactive duos between saxophonist Daunik Lazro and violinist Carlos Zingaro, Hauts plateaux is a consummate lesson in the art of the free duo. Devoid of grandstanding, the two virtuosi explore colours and timbre and the result is a magnificent collage of glorious sound. By the time of this recording, both Lazro and Zingaro had participated in dozens of avant-garde sessions, and this outing was an opportunity to eschew cliché and traditional modes of performing to create new assemblages of magnificent tapestries. Lazro performs mostly on alto, but his baritone saxophone is deep and sonorous. Zingaro’s electronics create a stunning backdrop, while his violin soars with creative invention. This CD displays the highest level of improvisation with both players bouncing off beams of creative intensity. A pure delight!”
