EATEN BY DUCKS is an international collective of artists who share their work and their ideas on a blog of the same name since its inception in 2006. The title ist a reference to the grim demise of Wilhelm Busch’s rascals Max & Moritz. It suggests a tendency towards rebellion, a faible for the morbid, an absurdist view of life and its conclusion, and last but not least a love for Graphic Storytelling.
In spite it being a rather diverse crowd in terms of artistic style and philosophical outlook, these may well be the features which connect the group’s members.

EATEN BY DUCKS ist eine internationales Kollektiv von KünstlerInnen die seit 2006 auf dem gleichnamigen Blog ihre Werke mit der Welt und einander teilen, und sich über diverse Themen austauschen. Der Name ist angelehnt an das tragische Ende von Wilhelm Busch‘s rebellischem Duo Max und Moritz, und suggeriert eine Tendenz zum Anarchischen, ein Faible für das Morbide, eine absurde Sicht auf das Leben und seinen Ausgang und eine Liebe für das Grafische und Erzählerische. Bei aller Unterschiedlichkeit der wechselnden Mitglieder von „Eaten By Ducks“ verbinden sie vielleicht diese Motive.

Besides a still expanding 7″ and tape release series started in 2009, this is the first edition published in the 12″ format by Staalplaat instore imprint Le Petit Mignon! Originally released as a CD in 2013 by Idiosyncratics, this is the 2xLP version of Monno’s “Cheval Ouvert”, featuring a new artwork by Ben Sanair, housed in an offset double sided 64x64cm multi-fold-out “origami” artwork, sealed by a screen printed band. White & Purple and White & Gold colored vinyls. This edition was cut, folded, assembled and numbered by hand and by the sweat of our brows in a pure DIY spirit! Limited to 319 copies, including download code. Published by Le Petit Mignon and worldwide distributed by Staalplaat www.staalplaat.com.

“After sharing the bill with fellow musicians like Knut, Isis, Jesu, Lightning Bolt, Melt Banana, Zu, Asva, Todd, Shit & Shine, Marduk or Tony Conrad on the occasion of the 150+ concerts given over the last years, drummer Marc Fantini, bassist Derek Shirley, electronic musician & vocalist Gilles Aubry and electrified tenor sax maestro Antoine Chessex felt the need to come back to studio work. Results a powerful though dark and introspective piece of pure sonic radicalism. CHEVAL OUVERT immerses the listener into a brutal typhoon of intense abstraction. A wild ride on a furiously galloping horse that finds itself torn into pieces by human destruction. Monolithic stabs of distorted saxophone, infinite loops of electronic madness and the devastating pairing of a melting low-end bass and mammoth-like drums resulting in a rock solid wall of ancestral evoking frequencies.”

Exoteric Continent is the project of Catalan artist based in Barcelona, Arnau Sala Saez. The ideas portrayed in Exoteric Continent are generally informed by socio-political contrasts that are connected to the constant evolution of technology in contact with human traditions and superstition. Its sound constructions stand between electronic structuralism, uneasy ambient atmospheres and edgy sonics. Rythmic patterns are often lost, at times standing closer to dub than dance music. Behind the concrete layers of sound, pulsations creep and organic textures lead to transparent frames. The qualities of Exoteric Continent’s sound were widely showcased in a large number of releases on such labels as Hospital Productions, Opal Tapes, amongst many others.

The music of Max Eilbacher draws upon the European traditions of electroacoustic and musique concréte composition, the intuitive American free noise underground, and the abstract edges of processing-intensive computer music. Recent records have been released by Spectrum Spools, Fogged Records, anòmia, NNA Tapes, and a series of self released cassettes. He has toured extensively through North America and Europe with collaborations and solo projects.

die Reihe is the most recent project of Jack Callahan, a composer and sound engineer based in New York City. He graduated from Hampshire College in 2012 with a BA in Music Composition & Theory. In 2011 he studied privately with Jürg Frey in Aarau, CH. His music has been performed and recorded by numerous individuals and ensembles such as the SEM Ensemble, the Wet Ink Ensemble, the Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra & the Dog Star Orchestra in such cities as New York, Los Angeles, Amherst, Zürich & Ostrava. Since 2014 he has run Bánh Mì Verlag, an imprint dedicated to contemporary experimental music and culture.

LAG OS is the new solo project from Rubén Patiño (Barcelona, 1979), an artist working in the field of electronic music and visuals while explores the limits of concert, public event and installation.He has released on labels such as Anòmia, Free Software Series and Alku amongst others and has upcoming records on Anòmia, HyperMedium and Ge-Stell.

Patiño is part of N.M.O. a rolling computerized ceremonial aerobics unit that together with Morten J Olsen. operates in a hybrid territory between club music, performance and inventive forms of sound spatialisation. Rubén Patiño has also collaborated with Arnau Sala aka Exoteric Continent and with Roc Jiménez de Cisneros in Super-boredom, a series of multi-channel audio pieces that uses an extremely rigid temporal structure. This occasion would be one of the first appearances as LAG OS a project based on the idea of generating sounds from a mysterious swamp that moves in between viscous mud, watery abstract landscapes and acidic tonalities.It will be presented as an audiovisual performance that explores the creative possibilities of code, text and synthetic sound.

Incisions

As accurate as a surgeon, Pole Ka draws bodies, she dissects them, she skins them. And with a very sure hand, she unveils her sharp pictures. She deploys strange characters in imaginary landscapes, grotesque scenes as if they were directly coming out of a cabinet of curiosities. Through these eccentrics and naïve visions, the mixture is multiple: animal, vegetal, hydride and monstrous characters, sciences and religion, the Encyclopedia by Diderot and D’Alembert as well as the pictures by Jérôme Bosch and Lucas Cranach, the surrealist collages by Max Ernst and the anonymous illuminations from the Middle-Age. Outdated anatomies, disappeared pathologies, old-fashioned landscapes: Pole Ka creates her own history of art, medicine and body.

The exhibition « Incisions » in the bookshop/gallery Raum B gives a new birth to old books of anatomy and medicine. Organs, members, bodies’ fragments were extracted out of pieces of paper, they were cut, lanced, stuck and coloured… creating an hybrid and surrealist composition mixing collage, drawing and paper cut.

For this first Berlin’s exhibition, Pole Ka will present a selection of drawings representing the different aspects of her work.

The idea behind the fest:
Do you feel like the same? Do you love both death and doom metal like we do?
In the course of a conversation with some friends we found out that almost everyone of us has his favourite death bands and doom bands also.
The logical question came up: Why not to set up an event that represents the symbiosis of both?
The idea for a new festival was born: DOOM ROTTEN DEATH. A diversified one which catches mind an emotions in different ways of metal.
For all like-minded people turn up and support this idea. It´s invented from fans and intended to be for fans on a nonprofit basis.
